NuDAM
6000
The Optimal Choice for Harsh Environment

Introduction
Overview
/ Applications
NuDAM
is an Intelligent Data Acquisition & Control Module designed for
data acquisition systems based on PCs and other processor based equipment
with standard serial I/O ports (RS-232). The modules convert analog
input signals to engineering units and transmit, in ASCII format,
to any host computer with an RS-232 port. The NuDAM modules are the
key components in flexible and cost effective distributed data acquisition
and control systems.
The
NuDAM modules provide direct linkage to a wide variety of sensors
and perform intelligent all signal conditioning scaling, linearization
and conversion. The module can be used to measure thermocouple, RTD,
pressure, flow, voltage, current, and numerous types of analog signals,
digital signals and data display. Advantages and benefits of the NuDAM
include:
Greatly
reduced wiring costs
Quick
and easy set-up of a control network
Space-saving,
flexible design
NuDAM
series are offered for industrial applications in different environments.
It is designed for challenging environment and conditions. The module
can handle speeds up to 115.2K bps, and can accommodate up to 128
modules on the network without a repeater. In addition, it offers
5000 Vrms high isolated voltage, and watchdog timer for industrial
applications.
Additional
features including PCB surface coating and noise immunity are provided
in NuDAM series that make it especially suitable for harsh environments.
It is designed for installation in industrial fields or outdoor environments.
There is a curved coating that protects and prolongs the life of rigid
PCB, electronic components and assemblies. This module allows superior
resistance to environmental conditions, including humidity, salt spray
and most harsh chemicals.

NuDAM
contains a watchdog supervisory circuitry which will automatically
reset the module when the system fails. In addition, a user-programmable
software timer provides a "safety" output signal in the event of host
computer and communication failure.

Outstanding
Features
Industrial
standard networking
NuDAM
uses the EIA RS-485 communication protocol for transmitting and receiving
at high bit rates and over long distance. The RS-485 is the most widely
used communication protocol in industrial applications.
Two-wire
and multi-drop communication
A
single twisted pair of wire is used to transmit and receive data between
modules. Multi-drop capability makes system configuration more flexible
and easy set-up of a control network.
Simple
command / response protocol
All
communications to and from the module are performed with printable
ASCII characters. This allows the information to be processed with
string functions common to most high-level languages like C, Pascal
and BASIC.
Industrial
design
All
NuDAMs are supplied with screw terminal plug connectors. The connector
ensures quick and simple installation, repair and maintenance without
disturbing fixed wiring, and easy modification. The compact size allows
the modules to be mounted on DIN rail, back-panel and wall-mount,
etc.
Suitable
for industrial environments
All
NuDAM modules accept any unregulated power source between +10V to
30V DC . They are protected against accidental power supply reversals
and can be safety connected or disconnected without causing any disturbance
to the network.
